Information : Germinal

Exports of germinal products involving a range of species have been increasing in recent years as Irish genetics companies exploit markets in the EU and third countries. Ireland’s bovine genetics are acknowledged as global leaders particularly in the area of grassland production. Pig genetic companies continue to focus on the development of their export markets having secured market access to Russia and China in recent years.

A Health Certificate is required, both for intra- community trade and trade to countries outside the EU (third countries). Health Certificates for intra-community trade are handled on the TRACES system while Health Certificates outside the EU (third countries) are dealt with by this Division.

DAFM veterinary officials agree the certificate in conjunction with the third country, contents of which are determined by EU legislation and the veterinary requirements of the third countries.

The health certificates consist of a main health certificate and a supplementary health certificate if required.  Health Certificates are signed by Veterinary Inspectors based in District Veterinary Offices in the county where the Collection Centre is located.

All agreed Health Certificates and General guidance notes for official veterinarians and exporters are posted on DAFM website at the following link:
